Opening Prayer

Jesus, you loved Peter because of his enthusiasm and wholeheartedness. You made him the “rock” because his faith transcended his doubts, fears, fickleness and stupidity. You must have wanted to hug him when he told you what you suspected: that he believed you were the Anointed of God. How important that confirmation must have been to you at that critical time in your ministry. Help me not to be like the other disciples who looked away or down, or who parroted other peoples’ answer when you asked: “who do you say that I am?” Be my “rock”, Lord Jesus, and shepherd me today. Help me not to look away or remain silent as you look into my soul and ask: “you, who do you say that I am?” Be with our Pope as he shepherds your flock and calls us to the same enthusiasm and faith in your saving message and presence. Help us use the keys to your heart generously in the way we free and uplift others.
