Opening Prayer

Royal God, You saved the legitimate son from the violent evil of power-hungry people. Once he is established, your people are purified, your Temple cleansed and the false gods destroyed. Now that Your Son has been established as King of our hearts and the whole of creation, help us to know how to be faithful and to cherish what is the treasure of Your Kingdom. Our hearts stray. Our hungers get the best of us. Darkness overwhelms our deepest wisdom amid the power struggles of our lives. Shine on us again, Holy One! Fill us with light so that we can even see the darkness. Values and pressures blind us so that we cannot even distinguish the darkness. God of Light, save us. Jesus, be the treasure of our hearts. Reign within the Temple of our spirit. We are empty and lost without You.
