Opening Prayer

God of freedom, You burn within us. I’m sorry for the pettiness, jealousy, fear and self-centeredness which enslave my heart and cool my resolve. I long for the true freedom of trusting You, yet I am afraid. Your ways are not my ways! Why do I continue to want to snuff out Your goodness and presence? Why am I so blind to Jesus speaking and working around me? Why am I deaf to Your voice? Why don’t I feel the passion and warmth of Your fiery presence within me? You walk into the fiery destruction I create and save me from emptiness and death. Refine and loosen the ties of bondage I create around myself and others. Free me to trust You and walk with Jesus into the fiery pain of the Cross, without fear. God of freedom, spoken in Jesus, make me foolish enough to trust You today. Save me from the true folly of my sinfulness.
