Opening Prayer

Eternal and Faithful God, You Who fulfill promises, Your coming at the end of the days sounds both inviting and frightening. You promise to fulfill the dream of a holy garden of justice, love, and peace blossoming among Your people. We long for that day of justice, when we will see Your face in each and all of our sisters and brothers, and know the spark of Your presence within us. It can not come soon enough, Lord! Hasten the long-awaited return of Jesus. Yet, the message of Luke sounds frightening. Your coming will stir things up. We don’t like to be disturbed and afraid, Lord. Pour forth the Spirit of Jesus within us that we may be patient through the anguish and trials that are part of the birthing pains of Your reign and fullness of Your dream. Thank you for being faithful, Holy God. Help us to live with advent expectancy, filled with hope.
