Opening Prayer
God of Light, You are always dawning on us! You invite us beyond the darkness that scares, demeans and envelops us. You enlighten us that darkness, disease and disasters are not punishments, but rather paths for Your glory to shine. Cure our blindness as we grope our way. InSpirit us not to be so blinded by the darkness that we cannot see light. Humble us not to impose shadows on others in our judgments about them. I love the drama of Samuel seeking Your new King. Why did he finally pick David? – because he was good-looking? – or the youngest? – or a shepherd? You work in strange ways, Lightening God. Your Spirit ignites who and what You will. Touch our blindness with Your living water and anoint us with Your shepherding Spirit. Lead us to seek the light as we continue our journey through Lent.
