Opening Prayer

Jesus, do You have to sneak into my heart as You slipped unknown into Jerusalem? Sometimes You are too threatening and challenging! You are God too close! Sometimes I’m simply hardened and walled, like Your holy city. On the Feast of Booths, you celebrated God setting His tent among us. Help us to celebrate Your presence in our midst. Teach us not to disdain nor look down upon You or Your holy ones. Your “otherness” makes us uncomfortable, even as You call us to a life beyond where we are today. Gently tiptoe and sneak into my heart, Jesus, even if in surprising, stretching and mysterious ways and gates. I want to feel Your footsteps. I desire to hear Your voice.
