Opening Prayer

Jesus, we need your help to balance the tension between living well in this world and still keeping our sights on your kingdom.  There is real tension, Lord!  Sometimes we worship material success.  It is not so easy to distinguish practical wisdom and divine movement.  Sometimes they so permeate each other, even as they challenge and nuance each other.  I’m torn and confused sometimes.  Help me to believe in your transforming presence within and among us.  Keep us faithful to you that we might  journey well in this world, with generous initiative and passionate justice.  Help us to be enterprising in lifting burdens others carry so that your merciful justice might come.
