Opening Prayer
You are a source of consternation and confusion, Lord. We wanted a successful and powerful Messiah, and You end up on a cross. You challenge us with divine wisdom not built on human hunger for power, privilege and prestige. InSpirit us again with Your wisdom that we might live from God’s heart. Teach us the value of weakness and powerlessness so that the mystery of Your powerful, saving presence can permeate us. We don’t easily make sense of suffering, Lord. We need Your help! Make us like the sensible bridesmaids who carry the extra oil of Your strength and promise, instead of simply living on our own limited resources. Be the light and strength that endures in us, and leads to the full sunrise of God’s reign and presence.
