Opening Prayer
Holy, Transforming God, You send Your Pentecost Spirit among us. Give us the tenacious faith of Tobias, who celebrates your Pentecost festival of the giving of the Law with a feast of rich fidelity. His outreach to the poor and rejected acknowledges that compassion is the fulfillment of Law and Your Spirit. Empower us to be faithful today, even despite the ridicule, cynicism and misunderstanding of others. As we grasp possessions which are not truly our own, but are on loan from you, inSpirit us with Your transforming power. Astound us with the truth that the righteous, high and mighty in our eyes might be destroyed in Your new world — and the rejected, alienated, lowly and fragile might be more honored with the possession of Your land of promise and the deepest fulfillment of human longing. Your Law transforms because it is Your Spirit, Pentecost God!
