Opening Prayer
Jesus, you must have been excited to return home and announce your messianic mission to childhood friends and neighbors. But you must have been stunned and hurt when they laughed at you and rejected you, wanting more from God. Like them, sometimes we lose the specialness and divine image of people we are too familiar with. Continue to pour forth Your Spirit in us that we not be permeated with contempt born of familiarity. May Divine Wisdom help us discern your face, voice and presence amid the people and experiences of our lives. Keep us open to the surprising ways you come and reveal to us. Empower us not to hurl our faith and expectations off the cliffs of our fears, cynicism, and narrow-mindedness.
