Opening Prayer

Paul, you responded with faith-filled courage to God’s call to proclaim the saving message of Jesus to new places. When you crossed to Macedonia, a whole new world opened up. You were cautious with Timothy, having him circumcised, even though you believed it was not necessary. You were sensitive to those who would hear the message. Like you, Paul, help us to be in the world, but not of the world. Let our worldly wisdom and experience be permeated with the Spirit of Jesus. Holy God of journeys, thank you for choosing me, like Paul and Timothy, to bring your good news to new people and places in the world of my life. Give me the courage of faith and caution born of sensitivity.

This day, in 1883, young St. Therese was healed by Our Lady of the Smile. May you smile on us and help us to smile amid the tensions, dyings and risings that are your paschal mystery happening within us. Heal the hurts of your Body, your growing vine.
