Opening Prayer
God of Wonders, You work Your marvels and promise so much more. John is born to straighten the path so that Your Word might penetrate deeply into our human experience. Why do we still create detours and roadblocks? Why do we still harden our hearts? We are so dumb and afraid, Lord! Afraid to trust Your promises and Your faithfulness. Open the doors of the Jerusalem of our hearts. Rip away all mourning and self-pity. Let Your glory shine within us, leveling the cracks and crevices in the landscape of our soul– and the valleys which divide Your human family. Work Your wonders, and help us establish the justice of Your reign so that Your light might glow within and throughout Your creation. Come, Lord Jesus, that we might know the leveling and uplifting power of your presence.
