Opening Prayer

Jesus, you are relentless and stubborn. You demand that we be like God, in our compassion, forgiving and generosity. Your law is such a high measure. We find it easier to measure ourselves against others, because it lets us off the hook. You demand a change and expansion of heart that is measured against You. We know that we are made in God’s image, but aren’t You stretching us in an impossible way?!? It is frightening that You continue to repeat that You will treat me the way I treat others. Please be bigger and better, more forgiving and compassionate than I am. Some parts of me like to be small, petty, vengeful and sinful. I’m sorry. I cringe before your awesome greatness and the expansive goodness of Your Heart. Embrace me with forgiveness and understanding. Empower me to be like You!
