Opening Prayer
Jesus, I’m embarrassed. I love and participate in the power struggle for head seats. I’m embarrassed that You overheard the selfish conversations of my heart and heritage. You are facing suffering, rejection, and death, and I’m angling for privileged position. I’m sorry! I’m so weak! Like Jeremiah, I wallow in the pit of self-pity. I work hard to please You and be a good follower. Don’t I deserve some reward? At least some glory, privilege or esteem in the eyes of others! Like Jeremiah and the disciples, I count the cost as if I needed leverage. Give me an overdose of your Servant Spirit, Lord Jesus. I need it! I’m hopeless and helpless in the way I worship power, prestige and privilege.
