Opening Prayer
God of wisdom, You are the God of fire and water. You have expectations of us, born of Your love and choice of us as Your people. Help us to use our freedom to make choices that quench and nourish, rather than burn and destroy ourselves and others. Keep us faithful to Your law of love by the power of Your Spirit Who sees all – of You and of us! Washed in the water of Baptism and fired by Your Spirit, help us to see Your heightened expectations of fidelity, obedience, reverence and forgiveness. As You are unconditionally generous, help us to have generous hearts in the way we observe Your law – and not take a minimalist approach. You don’t like petty, rigid hearts, do You? Humble us not to scandalize others and compromise their innocence. InSpirit us not to invite others to lower Your expectations and take easy ways out.
