Opening Prayer

God of Wholeness, You are powerful in the ways You uplift us.  You raise us beyond our self-destructive instincts and selfishness.  The Spirit of Jesus permeates us so that we can be like You, and live for others — for You!  Jesus saves us from being trapped in dark, swirling whirlpools of self-centeredness.  We thank You that Jesus embraced all that we are and surrendered it to You in death on the cross.  In raising him to full life, You share with us Your holiness.  Give us today a sense of integrity so that our actions flow from our being, our being flows from You, and our words flow from the truth.  Save us from duplicity of speech or action.  Make us whole and as You are whole, Good God!

In 1884, Therese Martin received the Sacrament of Confirmation, so that the Spirit of Jesus would unite her more closely with God’s triune Love and strengthen her with a more mature faith.  Help us, tender Therese, to appreciate the gift of God’s Spirit that we receive in Baptism and Confirmation and to use the Gifts to serve others and draw them closer to God.   God’s Breath is so powerful in the way it transforms and strengthens us.  Teach us again this day that Jesus has never abandoned us and lives and breathes within and among us.
