Opening Prayer

God, sometimes You seem so far away. Sometimes, You seem so close. I get confused. But I want to follow You and carry Your message of repentance wherever and to whomever You send me. Give me the courageous generosity of Jonah, Simon-Peter, Andrew and the sons of Zebedee. Empower me to let go of misgivings, cowardice and possessions so that my life and attitudes can proclaim your saving, powerful and uplifting presence. Help me to believe and teach by word and example how close you are and how present your kingdom is within and among us. Give us the grace of discipleship and joyful hearts to walk with you and announce Your reign. I’m sorry that we try to keep You distant and in another world, God of everywhere and everyone!
