Opening Prayer

Risen Jesus, you are a diet of bread and water that is heaven. You trim our excess with the proper diet which fulfills and ennobles God’s children. You are the Bread of Life, which satiates the deepest hungers of the human heart and satisfies the deepest longings of the human spirit. We are thrilled to be at the table of Your Word, to share your Body and Blood. Thank you for being our Bread who nurtures us with life that is joyously endless, unbounded and all inclusive. You are the Water of new life, plunging us into God’s Spirit. As you open the scriptures for us, so much becomes clear on the journeys and searches of our lives. Your transforming Water creates of us, not eunuchs, but people with creative power to be life- giving for others. We are what we eat, Lord Jesus! We are what we bathe in, Lord Jesus. You live in us and we have the seeds of power and glory as God’s Children, your sisters and brothers. Thank you for being our diet, Manna from heaven and eternal Spring!

Lord Jesus, today we also celebrate the anniversary of St. Therese’s First Communion. Remembering how excited she was about this first personal and intimate contact with you, help us always to be as excited about you and as loving of you as she was and is. Teach us again to appreciate the depth of your love for us and the intimacy of your presence in the Blessed Sacrament and every moment of our day.
