Opening Prayer

All powerful God, Jesus continues this message of humility. It is hard for us. We’ve been taught to be self-initiating and to use our gifts aggressively. We like the seats at the head table, just as we like to live in the best neighborhoods and be exalted by success. Please don’t move us downward in the food chain and socio-economic ladder which defines our lives. Teach us humility which gentles our arrogance and allows us to sacrifice. Give us the humble and bold faith of Paul, who surrendered all to be with Christ and serve Christ. Help us to follow and imitate Jesus as the servant rather than the host. Pour forth Your Holy Spirit that our life might be Christ.
