Opening Prayer
Jesus, partial readings of this scripture have caused so much damage. Teach us again the sanctity of the marriage covenant. In our days of disposable commitments, we destroy so much. Empower all wives and husbands to have the mutual deference, sacrifice, generosity and respect that makes relationships holy and wholesome. Save us from abusing or demeaning each other- from diminishing each other to be a function of my needs or control. Inspire us to reverence each other the same way you reverence us. Let your Word be the seed planted and growing within us. Be the leavening yeast of our life experience and relationships. We are hopeless and helpless without you and your self-emptying love.
