Opening Prayer

I’m embarrassed, Jesus! How many times I’ve made false excuses not to be with you – to ignore your invitations. I do want you to be my food. I want to belong at the banquet of your kingdom, yet I seem to want to do it my way. I’m sorry. Please don’t give up on me. Please don’t give my seat away. I’m embarrassed that I even eat your body and drink your blood and then do not live out the transfiguring values of your presence. I mock the meal that is you! Teach me to empty myself, as you did, that I might be transformed by your servant presence. Humble me not to be so selective about invitations and waiting for better offers. Make me generous in my response as you have been so generous in your self-giving to us.
