Opening Prayer

God of life, death is so mysterious. We trust you, but death is so final. Sometimes we welcome death as a needed release and entrance into a life with You. Other times, death frightens us, because we are letting go. It is out of our control. Yes, I wonder if spouse, family and close friends will be there in the life beyond with me, but I have to trust You. Keep us hopeful in times of suffering and challenge. I believe that You have created a risen life far beyond our human imagination. It will teem with life, joy, peace and fulfillment that will expand us in You larger than the universe. Refine us not to see heaven as simply a reflection of our human needs, but rather as Your incredible gift. You, the God of our history, are the God of our forever!
