Opening Prayer

Despite our stubborn need to play God and be in charge of everything, You are the awesome, creative and mysterious God of life! You must get impatient with us when we wallow in self-pity, lamenting what has gone wrong in our life. Our stubborn selfishness must annoy You. Humble us to turn to You in surrender. Help us to acknowledge You as our source of life and hope. Give us the surprising faith of the centurion, who knows Your Word is all-powerful and life-giving. You cured so many. Cure the destructive instincts within us – the diseases of our mind, body, spirit and relationships, so that Your saving presence may be manifested in our wholeness. Thank you for taking on our sufferings and infirmities and saving us from death.
