Opening Prayer

God of Justice, my heart sinks when I hear You proclaim that You show no favoritism. I always want to be special and more important to You, and want to believe that You love and save me more than them. You must be hurt by the way we judge and demean others as we try to assume more importance. Will you be as hard on us as we are on others? Save us from being empty vessels, whose spirituality is all ritual and external piety, without hearts that belong to and are possessed by You! Humble us to lighten burdens we impose on others by our judgments, attitudes and actions. Lighten burdens we place on ourselves and so encumber us that we don’t let You possess or fill us!
