Opening Prayer

You have an incurable affection and concern for the poor, God of justice! Your call to equal distribution and challenge of our greediness is absolute. You don’t seem to be smiling at our extravagance of riches, nor sympathetic as we strive to accumulate even more. I’m sorry that we don’t trust You and are afraid to share. Are You going to treat us with the same indifference and denial we show to the poor? Please give us the unity and peace won for us by Jesus, who ransomed us from sin, selfishness and separation. Save us and our society from worshiping the false gods of success, accumulation, materialism and greed. Save us from our hoarding instinct which is destroying us and Your human family. We really want You to be able to trust us as good and just stewards of Your world and resources. We want to worship You alone as the God of Everyone and help You create the reign of justice and peace for all!
