Opening Prayer

Sometimes I think I’m so important. Sometimes I think I am the whole world. But You remind me of the eternal ebb and flow of the generations. I am but a drop of water flowing in the endless stream of life. I am a speck in the enormous movement and universe of life. I am important and special to You, Good God, but as part of a much larger reality. Let me not be confused like Herod, beheading prophets and those who threaten me, or wondering suspiciously about others, for my own self-preservation. Help me enjoy the rhythm and flow of Your life and our history and see myself within Your plan. Teach me the vanity of things which are so unimportant and fill me the humility and wisdom of the ages.
