Opening Prayer

Awesome God, sometimes our rational nature makes us suspicious of You and Your divine ways. We need You to draw us closer and touch the simplicity and innocence of our hearts that we can embrace Your Wisdom. Free us from being lost in our questioning heads and academic sophistication. Give us the humility of Moses to carefully approach burning bushes and issues to seek Your Presence. Refine us to hear Your blazing voice. Help us not to come too near and take off our shoes in humility. While we want to be familiar with You, we don’t want to become so comfortable with You that we lose awesome wonder. You are powerful in the way You commission Moses and us to free people. Teach us to be faithful to your fiery command as we are awestruck in Your presence.
